Puffer Partners with Google Cloud to Power Puffer UniFi’s Real-Time Ethereum Infrastructure
Puffer Partners with Google Cloud to Power Puffer UniFi’s Real-Time Ethereum Infrastructure
Google Cloud joins as a key infrastructure partner for Puffer UniFi, operating a gateway through Puffer Preconf to enable sub-second preconfirmations with Ethereum-backed economic security.
We’re excited to announce our partnership with Google Cloud, which is joining as a key infrastructure partner powering Puffer UniFi.
As part of the partnership, Google Cloud will operate as a gateway through Puffer Preconf, helping process transactions and deliver execution preconfirmations for Puffer UniFi ahead of final settlement on Ethereum.
This brings Google Cloud’s enterprise-grade infrastructure directly into the Puffer UniFi execution stack, combining high-performance execution, Ethereum-native settlement, and cryptoeconomic security.
For Puffer UniFi, this partnership represents an important step toward building the infrastructure required for the next generation of onchain applications — from DeFi and institutional finance to AI agents and autonomous commerce.
Google Cloud’s Role in Puffer UniFi
Google Cloud will operate one of the gateways supporting Puffer UniFi through Puffer Preconf.
Gateways are responsible for receiving transactions, processing them according to defined ordering policies, and delivering execution preconfirmations before transactions ultimately settle on Ethereum.
With Google Cloud participating at the gateway layer, Puffer UniFi gains access to globally distributed, enterprise-grade infrastructure as part of its execution path.
This allows Puffer UniFi to combine:
- Enterprise-grade infrastructure from Google Cloud
- Sub-second execution preconfirmations
- Economic security backed by ETH
- Ethereum-native settlement
- A configurable, multi-gateway architecture
Together, these components create an execution environment designed for applications where both speed and reliability matter.
How Puffer Preconf Powers the Experience
Puffer Preconf is Puffer’s preconfirmation infrastructure for Ethereum rollups. It is a gateway registry for preconfirmers, designed to help rollups process transactions and deliver sub-second preconfirmations with strong economic backing.
In this architecture, gateways receive transactions, apply ordering policies, and deliver preconfirmation commitments to users before final settlement on Ethereum. Rollups integrating Puffer Preconf can choose from approved gateways in the registry, giving them a more flexible and resilient transaction processing layer.
Without a reliable gateway, rollups must wait for Ethereum’s 12-second block times, an eternity for high-frequency applications like payments, perpetual exchanges, institutional order flow, and increasingly, AI agents executing transactions programmatically onchain. Puffer Preconf solves this by maintaining an onchain registry of approved, economically secured gateways.
Puffer UniFi will be the first rollup to use Google Cloud’s gateway through this architecture, receiving fast preconfirmations before final settlement on Ethereum. More broadly, rollups integrating Puffer Preconf can select their gateway or configure multiple gateways in combination, receiving sub-second preconfirmations backed by slashable economic security.
The system is backed by restaked ETH as economic security, helping make these preconfirmations credible for rollups, applications, and institutions. If a gateway fails to honor a preconfirmation commitment, slashing mechanisms are designed to provide downside protection for affected parties.
This combination of gateway-based architecture, configurable infrastructure, and substantial economic backing is what makes Puffer Preconf an important part of Ethereum’s execution infrastructure.
What Google Cloud Brings to the Puffer UniFi Stack
Google Cloud has been onboarded as a registered gateway on the Puffer Preconf gateway registry. This means Google Cloud now operates gateway infrastructure that rollups integrating Puffer Preconf can select to process their transactions and deliver preconfirmations.
One of the most important outcomes of this integration is that rollups using Puffer Preconf can choose from multiple gateways, including Google Cloud, and future additions. They can select a single gateway or configure a combined gateway setup where multiple gateways process transactions in parallel or act as fallbacks for maximum reliability.
This brings several important advantages:
Greater infrastructure choice. Rollups can choose between Google Cloud, Puffer, or both, running them in parallel for redundancy, or switching based on latency, throughput, compliance, or geographic requirements.
No single point of failure. Combined gateway configurations reduce the infrastructure risk that comes with dependence on any one provider.
Enterprise-grade reliability. Google Cloud brings infrastructure designed to support institutional developers, large-scale applications, and AI-native use cases.
Puffer UniFi as the first deployment. Puffer UniFi will be the first rollup to use Google Cloud’s gateway for transaction processing and preconfirmations, putting this infrastructure into practice in a live Puffer execution environment.
Together, this creates a more resilient and configurable execution architecture, one that can optimize for latency, throughput, geographic distribution, reliability, and institutional requirements while maintaining Ethereum as the settlement layer.
Why This Matters for Puffer UniFi
Puffer UniFi is designed to bring a real-time execution experience to Ethereum.
By integrating Google Cloud infrastructure through Puffer Preconf, Puffer UniFi can deliver fast transaction processing and preconfirmations while remaining closely connected to Ethereum settlement and liquidity.
That combination is especially important for applications that cannot afford to wait through traditional blockchain confirmation cycles.
For developers, it means a more responsive execution environment.
For DeFi applications, it means faster interactions and more efficient markets.
For institutions, it means infrastructure capable of supporting time-sensitive financial workflows while retaining Ethereum as the settlement layer.
And for AI agents, it means execution rails capable of supporting autonomous, programmatic transactions at machine speed.
Why This Matters for Institutions
Google Cloud’s addition as a registered gateway also lowers the barrier for institutional adoption. The presence of a recognizable enterprise infrastructure provider can reduce perceived risk for institutions evaluating Ethereum-based infrastructure, while the multi-gateway architecture provides flexibility to select or combine gateways based on compliance, performance, or geographic requirements.
For institutions, this means access to Ethereum preconfirmations through familiar enterprise-grade infrastructure, backed by substantial economic security and a more configurable transaction processing layer.
Additionally, institutions have minted over $350B in Real World Assets (RWAs) on Ethereum’s mainnet that do not yet have efficient venues for trading or integration into structured products. Puffer UniFi’s speed and high throughput enable the creation of scalable trading environments and structured products for these assets.
Puffer UniFi being the first rollup to use Google Cloud’s gateway also provides a concrete implementation of this model rather than leaving it as infrastructure available only in theory.
Why This Matters for the AI-Native Onchain Economy
The onchain economy is expanding. DeFi and institutional settlement were the first wave. AI agents transacting programmatically onchain are the next.
AI agents executing financial transactions, paying fees, rebalancing positions, and settling orders need the same things institutions do: fast execution, enforceable guarantees, and infrastructure they can rely on at scale. Sub-50ms preconfirmations backed by slashable economic security aren’t just a DeFi feature. They’re execution infrastructure for an increasingly automated onchain economy.
Google Cloud’s presence as a registered gateway expands the infrastructure available through Puffer Preconf for this next wave. With Puffer UniFi as the first rollup to use Google Cloud’s gateway, that infrastructure now has a clear first deployment. Enterprise-grade infrastructure, sub-second execution, and strong economic backing: the foundation is in place.
Looking Ahead
Puffer is building toward a unified execution layer for Ethereum.
Puffer UniFi provides the high-performance execution environment.
Puffer Preconf provides the infrastructure for fast, economically secured execution preconfirmations.
And Ethereum remains the settlement and liquidity layer underneath it all.
Our partnership with Google Cloud brings enterprise-grade infrastructure directly into this stack and marks an important step toward making real-time Ethereum execution practical at scale.
Puffer UniFi will be the first rollup to use Google Cloud’s gateway through Puffer Preconf. But the broader opportunity goes far beyond a single integration.
As DeFi expands, institutions move more financial activity onchain, and AI agents begin transacting autonomously, the underlying execution infrastructure will need to become faster, more reliable, and more programmable.
Google Cloud × Puffer UniFi is helping build that infrastructure.
DeFi. Institutions. AI agents.
Real-time execution. Ethereum settlement.
