UniFi Testnet: Revolutionizing Ethereum Scaling with Based Rollups

Today, we’re thrilled to announce the Testnet launch of UniFi, a based rollup to Ethereum that will fundamentally change the entire L2 landscape. UniFi is low-cost, capable of sub-second transactions, and allows asset withdrawal from L2 (UniFi) to L1 (Ethereum) within a minute, which is multitudes faster than any existing rollups.

What is UniFi?
UniFi is a based rollup to Ethereum, designed to provide an enhanced experience for both users and developers, while remaining economically aligned to Ethereum. We know that developers are the lifeblood of any L2 ecosystem, and that is why we worked hard to ensure that UniFi is a conducive place for developers to experiment and build from both a product and economic perspective:
- Sub-second Transactions:UniFi is optimized for speed, allowing for near-instant transactions
- Instant Withdrawals from L2 to L1: Unlike other rollups that may require a waiting period, UniFi enables almost instant asset withdrawals from the UniFi (L2) back to Ethereum (L1), enhancing liquidity and user experience.
- Synergy with the LRT Flywheel:Puffer’s successful Liquid Restaking Token (LRT) ecosystem already brings a strong foundation of liquidity and community support. To further enhance UniFi’s ecosystem, we’ll encourage LRT holders to bridge their liquidity into UniFi, providing developers with immediate access to the liquidity needed to power their dApps.
- Preconfirmations for Added Security: UniFi’s preconfirmations offer a strong improvement over traditional soft confirmations by using Ethereum validators instead of centralized sequencers. This ensures near-instant (100ms) confirmation times with enhanced reliability, as validators face penalties for failing to include transactions, delivering both speed and security.
- Seamless Appchain Deployment: With UniFi, developers can deploy appchains effortlessly, benefiting from Ethereum’s security while enjoying scalability and ease of customization — perfect for building efficient, interoperable dApps.
- Season 2 Points Enhancements:As part of Puffer’s Season 2 campaign, our points system will be revamped to encourage active participation within UniFi. This gives builders access to a motivated, engaged community eager to explore and interact with new dApps, creating a vibrant environment for developers and users alike.
So why is Puffer building a Based Rollup?
As Ethereum grew, the need for effective scaling solutions became clear. Layer 2 rollups emerged as a popular answer, but they often relied on centralized sequencers, which introduced trade-offs like fragmented liquidity and lost value for Ethereum’s main network (L1). That’s where UniFi comes in.
UniFi is built on based rollups; meaning UniFi uses Ethereum’s own validators to sequence transactions instead of separate centralized L2 sequencers. This keeps scaling aligned with Ethereum’s principles of security and decentralization while providing additional income opportunities for validators. With based sequencing, the same validators that secure Ethereum’s base layer also support UniFi, creating a mutually beneficial relationship: UniFi gains Ethereum’s security, and validators see new revenue streams.
